As the New Year dawns many of us reflect on the year that has passed, and perhaps on our hopes and aspirations for the year ahead.
Some of us may even have made resolutions, some of us may have immense challenges and losses and others exciting plans and dreams.
There is much that may divide us, but perhaps fundamental common needs and kindness may help us bridge some of our differences, and help restore our faith in a common future and a concern for our planet.
The photo, taken a few years ago in Botswana, is of a Savuti sunrise. For me, the rising sun signals hopefulness. I wish you all happiness, light and strength in the year ahead.
Thank you so much for visiting this blog – I really appreciate the visits, the follows and the likes, and I so enjoy the comments and conversations and connecting with readers and bloggers from far and wide. I wish I was better able to manage my time to reciprocate as much as I would like to. I will return to my usual blogging pattern in the New Year.

Thanks so much Anne. Wishing you happiness and all the best for the year ahead. I also hope that the Eastern Cape gets rain soon to relieve the dryness and replenish the dams.

Yours is a blog I really appreciate. I have learned a lot the natural history of a part of the world about which I know little, and loved your photos and observations. And it’s been interesting to connect with you through my own blog too – it’s been good getting to know you just a little. All good wishes for 2019!

Thank you so much Margaret. I have also enjoyed us connecting, and I appreciate your engagement with so many issues, learning from your varied interests, your photography, and of course your somewhat wry sense of humour 🙂 Very best wishes to you and your family for 2019.
