Curves, rounds and circles are numerous in nature and are reflected in these photos taken in our garden over a period of time. The monochrome serves to emphasise the geometry of the shapes.

Lily pads – floating circles in the garden pond

Round cross-sections of stacked wood in our firewood stash

Rounded curves of the petals and buds of a crinum lily

Tadpole embryos curled in their spherical egg sacs that float near the surface of the pond

Rounded petals, buds and leaves of a flowering cassia

An orb spider web radiating out from a central circle

Concentric rings on the rounded curves of bract fungi

Thanks very much. I don’t often do black and white images, so it was interesting to see the result.

Thanks, we had a good trip despite the sobering drought conditions.
I also like the tadpole image – very lucky to find them like that 🙂

What a lovely photo-essay. I’m so glad you let these great images take centre stage. I hope the road trip’s going well, though I know you won’t read this till after it’s over.

Thanks M.B. The tadpole eggs were close to the surface in a small water feature we have. I have not seen them like that again, perhaps because now we have too many water plants that obscure such a clear view. It was just lucky to see them so clearly like that.

I’m no botanist, but I wonder if there are so many rounds in nature because
the shape adds strength/stability to the form?
Beautiful in black & white, Carol!

Thanks Sandy. Your observation about rounds and strength sounds very likely.
