Maybe it’s the lockdown. Maybe it’s that we had no electricity for a day and a night. Maybe it’s because the municipal dump is on fire and choking us all with toxic smoke. Maybe it’s because there is no electricity again this evening. Whatever, but I thought it was Wednesday.
But in fact it’s Thursday already. I just found that out. Truth is I don’t have a blog post ready to publish today, on Thursday, my usual posting day. Sorry about that. So what I will do is post tomorrow – on Friday.
I have been watching the comings and goings at one of the birdbaths in the garden – an ongoing distraction from the surging Covid-19 infections in our town, region and province.
Tomorrow I will share some of the photos I took.
So, this is just to say that this has been a strange week. But tomorrow is another day.

I honestly don’t know how you manage to keep to any sort of schedule. My days either slip by unnoticed or seemingly disappear into oblivion. I’m finding that it’s harder to concentrate on getting things done. That’s just to say there’s no apology required regardless of which day you happen to post. It’s always a much needed distraction.
That said, I must send some sympathy for the smoke. We are holding our collective breath here waiting for the dry season to hurry on by without a wildfire breaking out in the hills.

Thanks Gunta. We do try to keep some kinds of routines going as I think it is healthier not to have everything merge into a kind of blur …
I hope that you do not experience any large wildfires this season. Here the fire fighters are slowly getting the municipal dump fire under control and the smoke is reduced and has been dispersed away from our area by the wind. The smoke is very acrid and toxic on account of the plastics and other materials that are being burnt. People living closer to the dump are really suffering, including having burning eyes, nosebleeds and aching chests, and for those with respiratory problems it is far worse. This has been the worst dump fire we have experienced so far.

When I woke up on Wednesday I was certain it was Saturday. Same thing happened on Thursday and Friday. Now it IS Saturday and having been wrong so many days in a row I doubted myself again this morning and thought it must be Friday! And I really have no excuses at all!
Good news is that it IS Saturday and I can go straight on to read your Thursday post which you published on Friday …. 😆

I have just checked the calendar on my laptop and it confirms that it is indeed Saturday. At least for another hour and a half 🙂
The confusion re what day it is or isn’t really does seem to be a thing.

The confusion and difficulty in distinguishing days and weekends seems to be becoming more and more widespread. I am not sure if I should be worried or comforted by that!

I guess I won’t ask how your week’s going. Sounds like a whole lot going on. It will be my turn next since we’re supposed to have a hurricane coming ashore this weekend, though I suspect it will have moderated some or veered away before then. The top photo is just perfect for your headline. Made me laugh out loud.

The hurricane appears to be going to pass to the north of us, but tomorrow the picture will become clearer. We’re fairly well set so long as the wind doesn’t knock down the enormous, and aging, mango tree!

I have been reading about the hurricane and although it seems to have weakened a little it still sounds to be a force to be reckoned with, as well as the forecast heavy rain and big swells and waves from the sea.
Stay safe as the hurricane passes by (or even passes through) this weekend and I hope it is not too frightening and also that the mango tree remains standing through it all. Sending best wishes.

Thanks. I’m not too worried. It’s still packing hurricane force winds and is likely to through tomorrow, but Maui and Oahu are most likely to bear the brunt. I think here it will be wet and windy, but then that’s often the case! The most likely inconvenience is the power going out since there’s only a single power line to this community and one broken branch can have a big impact.

Our world really has gone topsy-turvy, Carol. I sincerely hope that fire is brought under control soon as those noxious fumes can wreak havoc with most and especially asthma sufferers. Being avid campers I hope you can weather the power outages a bit easier.

Thanks. The fire has been bad – the smoke has been so thick that the freeway was closed and schools and business across town have been closed. People with respiratory conditions have really had a tough time.
Yes, the camping stuff definitely does come in handy as I am sure you have found too!

The fire is still burning although not as intensely. From where we are the other side of town to the dump the smoke is far less, but they are saying that it will take several more days to bring it under control. I think the amount of smoke areas are being subjected to now are dependent on the direction and speed of the airflow and any wind. Hopefully they will indeed be able to get the fire out in the next few days.

Absolutely. I see that the forecast is for a 30% chance of 3 mm of rain tonight and tomorrow, and then back to zero. We need a bit more than that!

I think so. Plus the long power outages (as opposed to scheduled load shedding) don’t help. There is a widespread power outage currently. We have a small inverter and battery (a bit of a Heath Robinson contraption) enabling us to connect to an ever-weakening Internet signal. Amazing that I was able to upload and post at all! Hope you are okay for electricity and of course water too?
