I thought I’d stick with the baby animal theme, following on from last week’s baby Striped Ground Squirrel.
We watched this Springbok mother shepherding her baby through late-summer grasses, stopping every now and then to let it suckle. The bond between them was obvious and touching to witness. This is another in my series of photos taken at the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in central Botswana.

This one is beyond cute! Mom is definitely casting a leery eye at you, but she can sure be proud of that little one.

A lovely study of the protective mother watching over her nervously inquisitive youngster 😊

Thanks Graham. Yes she was keeping an eye on us, and I indulged in the fancy that she was looking both protective and somehow proud of her baby 🙂

Thanks. I gather that the babies of the smaller antelopes are called lambs, and those of the bigger antelopes are called calves. I suppose that the term babies would do for both 🙂

How are you at Raptor Identification? ( Not very good photos, I’m afraid) Could be a Kite or a Gymnogene. I’m going to post in a moment or two.
