Usually I keep post-processing of an image to a minimum – confining myself to a bit of cropping, a bit of lightening/darkening and sharpening, and that is pretty much it.
But, in response to this week’s photo challenge with the invitation to showcase something experimental, I post this photo of two Red-backed Mannikins at the birdbath, where I experimented with manipulating luminance and colour. I think that the changes somehow foreground the birds and perhaps enhance the sense of ‘friendship’ that they seem to share?

P.S. To followers and readers an explanation and an apology are due. I have been pretty much excluded from the blogosphere for about ten days – first by pressure of work, and then for several days, by no access to the Internet, and now only intermittent access with very slow download and upload speeds. I hope this will all be sorted soon so I can catch up on reading blogs that I have been missing out on and also so I can respond to comments. I am really sorry to have seemingly ‘disappeared’. I also hope to return to being able to do a ‘proper’ post each week in addition to participating in the weekly photo challenge.

I think it’s a amazing result. Almost like a painted picture.

Thanks so much Sandra. Things are settling down thanks, but our usual Internet service has still not been restored and the alternative is a bit iffy. The lack of service is irritating (and I am irritated at how dependent we have become on such things!!).

I’ve. missed you too. I know technological problems are annoying and frustrating, but I’m glad it’s nothing worse. And I hope being busy at work is good, not stressful. Great photo!

Thanks very much Margaret. Annoying and frustrating sums it up pretty much! It remains an ongoing saga, unfortunately.

I am so glad to know your problems have largely been technological for I have missed your contributions.

Thank you Anne. I am missing reading the blogs I usually visit and am frustrated at the current situation that is still unresolved, but I do have a weak connection at least for the moment!
