Usually seen buzzing about collecting pollen from flowers, I spotted this carpenter bee taking a walk.
For such an energetic flyer, walking must seem so unexciting and so, well, pedestrian. However, after walking about for a bit, pausing now and then to clean her feelers, she was soon warming up her wings and then away she went.

Fortunately I can speak bee. As a carpenter who learned to fly, she thiks bach to her simpler life and needs to feel the touch and teaxture of wood between her fingers every now and then. Great captue

Thanks MPP. I am often surprised at just how hairy (fluffy?) so many insects seem to be!

It’s crazy! Now I think I’ll have to keep a look-out for them.

Mesmerising photo. So much detail to study. Thanks Carol! (And thanks for pausing in your industrious life, carpenter bee!)

Thanks Sandra. The carpenter bees are most industrious as you say, and are usually constantly on the move. In fact I was relieved when it eventually flew off as I was afraid there might have been something wrong with it.

What a fantastic picture … wouldn’t it be great to be able to speak ‘bee’ so you could ask her why she was walking …

Yes, flying must definitely be easier if you’re a carpenter bee.

She certainly didn’t look that comfortable walking.

Nice shot! Perhaps she just wanted to rest her wings a bit.

Thanks. She is making and stocking a nest nearby, so perhaps she was just taking a break.
