A layered look is definitely in for this Olive Sunbird. Although she is slightly dishevelled after preening, one stray feather randomly adds panache to a style where fluffy wins out over sleek.
Posted in response to the weekly photo challenge with the topic ‘layered’, requiring a focus on the interplay of depth, density, and texture.

What a stunner …. Iove that casual stray feather giving extra flare to her chic plumage

Thanks Osyth. Relieved that you are not bothered by yet more feathers!

I’m fine when they are not on the bird or near me.
But actually I have stumbled upon several dead Tits recently and have almost been able to move them – petits pas … I will get there.

I am bothered by dead creatures whether they have feathers or not! And on the subject of finding some things fearful, I know someone who can’t bear buttons or Mint Imperials. I wonder if this is an unusual fear?

That is a very strange one but the think is whatever we have a fear of is probably strange to someone else … but buttons? There’s a story in that (and the mints)

Fabulous shot, Carol. Every feather, and the reflection in that bright black eye.

Thanks Tish. I was also surprised at the reflection in the eye.

Thanks Belinda. It is beautiful and it is little. According to the bird book they weigh about 11 grams.

Beautiful shot. Not a species I have encountered up here in Gauteng.

Thanks Ark. I think they keep themselves pretty much to the eastern coast and adjacent interior.

Thanks Anne. She was so busy preening she didn’t seem to mind me standing quietly by.

She is lovely. Olive Sunbirds are fairly common in well wooded areas, including gardens, in the eastern part of the country., which includes where we are. Always lovely to see and hear them.

I am unsure if this is pret-a-porter or haute couture but whatever it is Olive is carrying the look!
