Banded Tilapia gather together to sun themselves near the surface of our pond.
We stocked our garden pond with some tiny indigenous Banded Tilapia. They soon grew and bred prolifically.
I liked the way the reflection of some water plants patterned the surface of the water and the group of fish floating just beneath the surface. I manipulated the original photo using PhotoScape to create a collage effect.

Beautiful .We converted our pool into a pond and keep koi and goldfish. Never heard of this fish before. Can one buy them at a pet shop? And will be they be okay with koi?

Great idea to convert your pool to a pond. I would not recommend putting Tilapia with Koi, based on the experience of some friends. The Tilapia are very territorial and ended up bullying the Koi (herded them into a corner!), and also the Koi developed a fungal infection, but not clear if that was from the Tilapia or some of the water and vegetation that came with them, or even from stress. We bought our Tilapia from a smallholder who mostly bred goldfish. It turns out because Tilapia breed so prolifically that they are not really suited to ponds or even dams. After several years with Banded Tilapia in our pond, on the advice of an indigenous fish expert we released them into a tributary of a fairly major river. I plan to post about the fish and the pond before too long.

Thank you Anne. I haven’t even printed any photos for a long time, so never think of framing any. Perhaps something to consider though.
